Welcome to Afrotech, a vibrant social app developed by us at Coder Crew, now available on both iPhone and Android. Afrotech offers a platform designed to connect people from diverse backgrounds in the tech world, fostering collaboration and inclusion. With features like feeds, communities, messaging, notifications, and live events, Afrotech is more than just another social app – it’s a hub for celebrating diversity and community in tech.

Problem/Opportunity

When we set out to develop Afrotech, our main challenge was creating an app that not only offered engaging features but was also intuitive and user-friendly. We needed to ensure that essential functions, like messaging and community-building, worked seamlessly across different devices. Additionally, we wanted to go beyond just building a social app by focusing on organizing live events, particularly for African American communities. Our goal was to innovate in event management, so we incorporated a map feature that clearly displays event locations, creating an opportunity to foster real-world connections through technology.

Solution

To overcome these challenges, we put a heavy focus on usability. We designed Afrotech to be both feature-rich and easy to navigate, making sure the app's interface felt intuitive for users. Extensive testing and user feedback allowed us to continually refine the experience. We integrated engaging features like messaging and community-building tools using the Amity SDK, ensuring they worked smoothly across both iOS and Android. Additionally, we implemented a reliable event management system, complete with a map feature to show event locations, making it easy for users to find and attend events. By addressing these core needs, we successfully built an app that enhances community engagement and simplifies event organization for African American tech communities.
